Why?
About 18 months ago (the end of 2021) my world changed significantly (for the better) when I came across a job posting looking for an instructor for “Internet, Networking & Security Technology” at a local career tech center. At that point I had been in software development and networking engineering for over 20 years and didn’t even know that I was looking for a change. While my love of all things tech hasn’t waned over the years, I realized that I was tired of using my skills in a commercial environment. The CTC position felt like a once in a lifetime type opportunity to me, so I decided to pursue it. I’m sure I’ll write more in the future about why I love the CTC format.
Fast-forward to now. I am finishing up my first full year of teaching, our program is shifting focus to primarily software development and the world seems on the verge of being upended by the emerging capabilities of AI. It’s an exciting time to be in education even though it also feels precarious sometimes.
So, why write all of this down? Well, I take notes anyway, and some of this is so new that I figured there is a chance someone else might find my experiences of what’s working (and not) helpful. So, I’m dumping my thoughts here in the hope that some value may be extracted, or even better, some interesting conversations develop.
